Brief:
Singapore's urban development is a global benchmark for innovative and sustainable city planning. Over the past few decades, the city-state has transformed from a densely populated, resource-scarce island into a vibrant, highly livable metropolis. Key to this transformation has been Singapore’s comprehensive and forward-thinking urban planning policies which integrate environmental sustainability and economic development. Central to these efforts is the creation and management of open spaces, which serve as crucial elements in enhancing urban living standards and environmental health.
This course will examine how Singapore has positioned open space creation as a pivotal strategy for setting global benchmarks in urban development. It will also explore the ongoing challenges the city faces and how landscape architecture can play a leading role in shaping the next-generation sustainable city. The course will delve into the unique design approaches embodied in the "Think Like Water" philosophy, aiming to inspire innovative solutions for future inclusive and resilient urban landscapes.
